Simple route to new oxadiazaboroles and oxadiazoles via amidoximes

Abstract

The novel push–pull alkene, the 2-(nitro-nitrosomethylene)-pyrrolidine with numerous aliphatic or aromatic amines as nucleophiles afforded amidoximes. Various substituted oxadiazaborole and oxadiazole derivatives were prepared starting from these amidoximes, widening the synthetic applicability of the push–pull alkenes. Acylation of the amidoximes was also examined. The mechanism of the amidoxime formation was investigated by computational methods.     

Organic solar cells based on chlorine functionalized benzo[1,2-b:4,5-b′]difuran-benzo[1,2-c:4,5-c′]dithiophene-4,8-dione copolymer with efficiency exceeding 13%

Benzo[1,2-b:4,5-b′]dithiophene(BDT) has been widely used to construct donor-acceptor(D-A) copolymers in organic solar cells(OSCs). However, benzo[1,2-b:4,5-b′]difuran(BDF), an analogue of BDT, has received less attention than BDT. The photovoltaic performance of BDF copolymers has lagged behind that of BDT copolymers. Here, we designed and synthesized two BDF copolymers, PBF1-C and PBF1-C-2Cl. PBF1-C-2Cl, which is composed of BDF and benzo[1,2-c:4,5-c′]dithiophene-4,8-dione connected by a chlorinated thiophene π-bridge, displays a low-lying highest occupied molecular orbital energy level,which helps in yielding a high open-circuit voltage(V_(oc)) in OSCs. As a result, when blended with Y6, PBF1-C-2Cl-based devices showed a high V_(oc) of 0.83 V and a power conversion efficiency(PCE) of 13.10%. To the best of our knowledge, the PCE of 13.10% is among the highest efficiency values for OSCs based on BDF copolymers.

The novel application of Fourier thermal analysis in foundry technologies

The process of casting in sand moulds is used for a large volume of castings manufactured in the world. Internal channels and complex geometries of these products are formed by the placement of cores within the mould cavity. Resin-bound sand mixtures are essential ingredients in engine component manufacturing. In this study, a state-of-the-art application of Fourier thermal analysis in foundry technologies is presented. Investigation of decomposition phenomena of resin-bound moulding materials during casting production is a brand new area to use the potential of thermal sciences. Temperature measurements in test samples of standard types of moulding mixtures were performed. The registered cooling curves were processed by a numerical iteration algorithm to determine the amount of heat absorbed during degradation of the moulding material. Thermogravimetric analysis (TG) and differential thermal analysis (DTA) of sand mixtures were carried out to compare the results of the Fourier thermal analysis with TG and DTA curves.

Development of simultaneous analysis of tryptophan metabolites in serum and gastric juice – an investigation towards establishing a biomarker test for gastric cancer diagnosis

To evaluate changes in tryptophan metabolism and discover diagnostic biomarkers for gastric cancer, a quantitative method was developed for tryptophan and its seven metabolites (indole‐3‐lactic acid, anthranilic acid, serotonin, nicotinic acid, kynurenic acid, kynurenine and 3‐indoxyl sulfate) in both human serum and gastric juice using liquid chromatography–tandem mass spectrometry (LC–MS/MS). Serum and gastric juice were prepared with a simple protein precipitation using aqueous 0.1% formic acid and acetonitrile. As a result, it was found that the kynurenine pathway of tryptophan metabolism was activated in gastric cancer and that the metabolic ratio of kynurenine/tryptophan, which reflects the enzyme activity of indoleamine‐2,3‐dioxygenase, was associated with the observed metabolic changes. Finally, the investigation of tryptophan metabolites, especially kynurenic acid, in serum and gastric juice might serve as biomarkers for gastric cancer. The findings in this study provide critical information of tryptophan metabolism which can be applied to a serum‐based diagnostic test for gastric cancer.
